I bought Day One on a whim for my MacBook and I am NOT regretting it. I have tried to develop the habit of keeping a journal for years to no avail, and the only thing to show for previous attempts is a stack of nice books with mostly blank pages. I've tried different methods including bullet journaling but nothing ever stuck until now. I love the Day One experience. The simple interface lets you focus on writing without getting caught up in bells and whistles. The password protection let's me feel like I can really open up, and I'm not just talking about being able to put down the "deep stuff". Every time I use the fingerprint ID or put in my pin on my iPad (the sync is great between the two) it's also a reminder that this is just for me. In turn that let's me write without worrying about everything being "good enough" if somebody were to see it. The best part in my opinion though is the daily prompts, simple questions that get you typing away. It also shows you how much of a streak you've been on. Even when I get home dead tired after my 12 hour shift this app gives me the urge to sit down and write before I got to sleep. All in all an AMAZING product!

Day One has helped me get back into the habit of keeping a journal. I love it so much that I recently switched from a PC to a MacBook Air so that I can journal on my desktop AND my iPhone.
  • Super Productivity Hacking App. Just needs a little TLC

This platform is truly amazing - it offers so much freedom and structure at the same time, and the main timeline view of all of your journal entries provides an amazing bird's eye view of your entries and productivity. Reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that it just isn't buttoned up as much as I would like. A number of the interactions aren't super intuitive and took a bit of digging to understand how to use (templates, for example). I think there is room for growth in tightening up the interactions for their core use cases, but other than that I can't recommend this platform enough. Give it a try for a few days at least!

For me, this is the best journaling app around. I really like the ability to add all the media elements which can do a great job of capturing emotions as well as thoughts.

Little bit expensive for the subscription if you want to connect with all your devices, but if not, this is the best app to write journal. Hope they just do fixed price for buying the app instead of using subscription mode.
  • Great app but needs to support linking

I love the design and feel of this app and the consistent quality across macOS and iOS/iPad. However, it would be much more useful (to me, at least) if it were possible to link to journals, entries, and other views. Ideally, Day One would integrate with Hook, but any kind of links would work.

Say I have some text bolded, adding link will change unbolded it.
  • THE best journaling app by far!!

I do pay for the pro version of this app but it's well worth it! Having the ability to create various journals for the areas I need in my life is awesome and I have a lot of fun styling my entries with the built in formatting features. I recommend this app to anyone who loves journaling electronically.
