  • UPDATED - New update (AGAIN 12/26/20) but no bug fix

Dont purchase. If you are hoping the new update fixes the crashing, it doesn't. I was patient. Have had Civ 6 a loooong time across multiple computers now. After the update sometime in the spring or summer of this year (2020) it now will run fine until somewhere around 50-100 turns and then it would start freezing. Thought maybe it was the computer since it was about 5 years old. Was upgrading my computer and figured that would be the end of the issues. I was wrong. Was still patient though. I figured, these things get updated with bug fixes. Sure, there are quick patches for glaring issues but it isnt always instant. Then got the latest update today (9/25/20). It still crashes on a brand new iMac with high processing speeds & 10 cores. That means y'all released the update adding a whole new pack with new civs but didn't fix the underlying issue of the crashes and people can't play it. UPDATE 12/26/20 - All of the above still applies. The patch on 12/17 or 12/18 should have fixed this per their notes but it has not. I can play briefly before it becomes a crashfest. DO NOT BUY

About 10 turns in the game starts crashing on my M1 MBA. When loading after the crash, I get max. 5 turns before it crashes again. :/

I've been playing Civilization VI on a 5K iMac equipped with an Intel Core i9 processor, Radeon Pro Vega 48 GPU with 8 GB VRAM, and 32 GB RAM. In order for it to run without crashing, I had to set the resolution quite low. Even then, the fan would start running after about an hour if I played four or more civiliations. Sometimes, the game would periodically freeze for a minute, then continue, and eventually it would just crash after about 90 minutes of play. On the base M1 Mac mini attached to an LG 4k monitor, the game auto loaded with full 4k resolution, and it ran just fine with four civilizations. (I have not tried more.) Action is smooth, I hear no fan, and so far it has not crashed.
  • Don't waste your money -latest update (1.37) still unplayable

Updated review based on December 17, 2020 update (Version 1.38). Still buggy, still unplayable. Made it to turn 71 (out of 500 for a complete game) before it crashed my system entirely, requiring a hard reboot of the whole system. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, IT IS UNPLAYAB.E. Updates have become more frequent, but it seems that Aspyr doesn't bother to play even a single game all the way through to test the product. If they did, they would know they have a problem and maybe the next update would try to fix it. Updated review based on November 20, 2020 update. Still buggy, still unplayable. I made it to turn 248 before it completely crashed this time, so, progress?). My old advice stands, if you haven't bought it, DON"T BUY IT. If you have bought it, it's still bug ridden and unplayable. Updated review based on October 22, 2020 update to version 1.36. This game continues to be unplayable, even on high-end macs. I have the 2020 iMac with a 10-core 10th gen i9 processor and 64GB of RAM. Still not enough to play this game without crashing. By the 63rd turn, it started to lag. By turn 76, it crashed my entire OS, requiring a hard reboot to recover. This has been an ongoing problem with this game for about two years now, updates are exceptionally rare, and the only time I play is when I see a new update has been released. I update and see how many turns I can play before it crashes, and inevitably, it crashes before I can finish a single game. This latest update is even more unstable than the last ones. Any scan of the reviews here or the developer's forums, or anywhere else will show that this is a widespread problem across virtually all Mac models, numerous tickets have been opened, none have been asknowledged, and the game never gets stable. Apple should not allow this game on the App Store, it's a fraud.
  • Crashes for me too

I have been buying Civ's since 3. Never had this problem. New MBP i9, my game crashes within 3 turns after yr 1000. Game publisher better patch fast. Apple, please get involved.
  • Crashes often on brand new macbook pro

The game itself is fun but begins crashing about 200 turns in and continues crashing very often. I have to set the game to the lowest settings and it still crashes sometimes. Although I enjoy playing this game, I would not buy it for this platform unless these serious problems are fixed. You should not pay for something that won't work.
  • Worst Sid Meier Creation Yet

I have played many games of his over the years. I thought Railroad Tycoon was horrible, until I played Civilization VI. V version and Beyond Earth are so much better. The graphics in VI are atrocious for how advanced our technology is, I thought I was playing a DOS game! Whomever wasted their time and resources on this monstrosity of a creation would have been better off with a renovation of Colonization.
  • Crashes the whole system constantly

I have a 2019 Mac Pro with the W5700X GPU running Big Sur and the game freezes and then screws up with whole graphics subsystem of macOS forcing a hard reset. This happens constantly. I love the game i just cant play it anymore.
