  • The app needs UI help and basic QA

I wish the developers did a basic QA on the software. When I go to close the Ring App it just hangs up never closes. I have to force quit the app or send a command via the terminal to kill the app. When it comes to the user interface, it needs a major revamp from the ground up. As a user of the Ring service for 3 years, the software and service has improved over the years but at a snail's pace.

Not ready for Rosetta 2 on M1, repeatedly freezes and requires forced quits. Please convert to universal binary.

As the other reviews indicate, this app is very poor because it lacks features on the Device Settings. For example, you can change Ring alert tones on your phone, but the Ring app installed on a Mac does not have that feature. I called Ring Support and it was confirmed that the app installed on a Mac does not allow you to change the alert/tone. Also, every time you open your Mac the Ring alert/tone is activated and is annoying and loud. It would be nice to change that, but nope. We are not always on our phones, and work on our computers, which is advantageous as it has a bigger screen than a phone or tablet so Ring is behind with this app for the computer. For these reasons I wish I could give zero stars.
  • Still hangs

Just updated to v 2.8.2 and when trying to quit, the app still hangs. The only way to exit is to affect a force quit from the finder.
  • 2.8.2 Force Quit...

[2.8.2] While I like the Ring doorbell we have, but the app is an absolute mess. Stops working and I have to force quit it every time. It is so slow to load that I miss anyone at the door. Not buying anymore Ring hardware until they fix this app. Would like to add some cameras, but show me first you can maintain the software! update: 2.8.2 STILL has the same problems. Can't even close the app...have to force quit.
  • Dumpster Fire

2.8.2 Update: Having deleted 2.8.1 of the app and updated to MacOS 11.1, I saw app 2.8.2 was out and tried again. It acutally worked well for about 36 hours. Then it exploded into flames -- beachballs, videos not popping up, force quits required. Calling this software a dumpster fire is unkind to dumpster fires because those eventually run out of garbage. This app must have a perpetual garbage supply. Update: More than two months later, and the app hasn't been updated, let alone fixed. It is actually worse under Big Sur 11.0.1. My investment in the Apple ecosystem is large. My investment in Ring is two chimes and a doorbell. I guess I need to replace what was a useful doorball. Special thanks to Ring for reneging on their promise to add HomeKit. ------- If I were at Ring right now, I'd be looking for whatever developer broke this thing. Version 2.8.1 is a disaster. Does it beachball? Yes, it does. Does it fail to connect to the doorbell? Yes, it does. The website connects to the doorbell just fine, and the application posts notifications about motion, but most of the time, no live video window comes up. Trying to look at a live view often produces a beachball, as does looking at recent recordings. C'mon guys. Have some pride.
  • Umm... No Live View?

From what I could see, there's no way to view your Ring camera from this app. If there is, it's so buried in the interface I couldn't figure it out after looking everywhere. Yeesh.
  • Could be way better for mac

Nothing like the IOS app. No preview tiles or live view. With the new M1 macs they should just allow the iphone/ipad version to run on the macs that support it.
  • Great but why no Ring Neighbors???

Why is there no app for Ring Neighbors for the iMac, Mac?? It doesnt apear to be an online site either. This is a big part of the safety aspect that is just missing. I don’t want to always use my iPhone to check on things. The Ring app for iMac is awesome, just not complete with out Neighbors.
  • Missing Features... A Lot of Missing Features

The mobile app for Ring is great and offers me full control over my devices settings and a timeline to see it all. The Mac app however does nothing similar to that. I'd love to see a timeline where it can be controlled via the Mac's trackpad, and the ability to control the settings of my Video Doorbell Pro and Chime Pro and the images for these devices are too high instead of being centered. Small rookie mistakes tbh
