Description

Easy CSV Editor is one of the best editors for CSV and TSV data files you'll find on the market. In a clean and user-friendly interface, it offers simplicity and flexibility to edit both small and large documents. KEY FEATURES • Open, create, edit and save CSV & TSV documents even if they are not properly formatted, like don't have the same number of fields in each row! • Filter the content of the document using a multitude of filtering rules. • Sort the entire document or a range of rows, based on multiple sorting rules. • Find duplicate (or unique) data from your documents. • Merge or split the selected cells or entire columns. • Split documents by number of rows or document size. This is available from "File -> Split...". • Set up to 10 rows as header rows and 10 columns as header columns. Choose if these stay frozen or not. • Resizable rows and columns so you can easily see the whole content of the cells. • Hide rows and columns. • Autofill by establishing a pattern from the selected cells, and if no pattern can be determined then simply repeat the selected cells. • Fill the selected cells using text of your choice. • Find and Replace text using a familiar, yet powerful, interface. • Find and Replace is supported in the entire document as well as in selected columns/rows/cells. • Find lets you configure where in the cells' text to look for matches: "Contains", "Equals To", "Starts With" and "Ends With". • Find also lets you search for special patterns, some of the supported ones being "empty cells/fields", "emails", "URLs", "phone numbers". • Use "Clear" menu item to "cut" the last fields from a row (or even entire rows!). This way you can produce beautiful documents, without the usual clutter produced by the in excess field separators. • Auto-detect CSV format, while providing you the option to adjust the detected parameters. • Copy, cut or clear a group of cells or entire rows or columns. • Full support for Undo & Redo. • Copy & Paste data between Easy CSV Editor and other applications (i.e. Excel, Numbers). Works the other way around, too! • Text transformations which allow you to cleanup and beautify your documents. • Customize the font used to display the CSV data. You can even increase or decrease the font size per document window (from "View" menu). These changes are persisted between application relaunches! • You can configure, from "Preferences" -> "General" tab, whether or not you want to be prompted for CSV input properties each time you open a file that has been opened before. If you choose to not be prompted then the application will use the last known properties for that file to open it. • Status bar at the bottom of the CSV window. On the left, it shows various statistics about the selection or document. On the right, it shows a calculation performed on the selected cells. You can choose one of the following calculations: Sum, Average, Min, Max, Count Numbers. • A big, resizable, text box located above the status bar showing the content of selected cell. You can edit the text in this box, too. Use Command + Enter shortcut to quickly put the focus in this box. OTHER FEATURES • Customize the CSV properties when the document is saved. • Quickly visualize and change the properties of an opened document - just hit Command + I or "Inspector" button in the toolbar. • Drag & Move entire columns and rows. • Add rows or columns, via existing shortcuts or menu items, to the left/right/up/down of selection. • Insert copied rows/columns above or below the selection. • Quickly jump to a row (Command + L). • Quickly jump to the cells which are selected (Command + J). • Quickly move, via existing shortcuts or menu items, to document's left/right/top/bottom margin. • Preferences - among other things you can change the visibility of gridlines, column headers, footers and line numbers. • Print. • Full screen support. • Tabs support on macOS Sierra 10.12 and above. • Dark Mode support on macOS Mojave 10.14

I wear out the "Find Duplicates" feature alone in Easy CSV Editor. This is what a purpose built App should look and perform like, thank you for developing and frequently enhancing an essential tool in my solution toolkit!

In my daily workflow, I often open some large csv files (hurdeds of MB). It takes some time to open, but in this period of time the macOS deem this app as a dead thread and I can hardly focus on this app. I suggest you to add an indicator when open large csv files and to solve this fake death issue. Hope this app become better. And thanks for your development.

until you use this app. Why is this better than Excel for working with CSV's? - It's lightweight and opens quickly. Nothing is worse than waiting for Excel to take forever to open. - It preserves any meta-formatting. For example, say I edit one cell in a CSV in Excel and then Save As CSV. When I look at the file diff in GitHub Desktop, it says the whole document has changed. But when I do the edit in Easy CSV Editor, it shows only the one cell of interest changed

Very helpful for cleaning up csv files before uploading to SQL or R. It's fast and has sum useful table editing and data repair functions. The developer took time to answer a few questions I had... on the weekend, no less.
  • Just all around excellent app

Since the developers greatly improved hugh files processing a couple of versions ago, this is my go-to app for csv and tsv files. Very powerful, focused and productive app. The only addition I would suggest: a quick-view plugin that worked by default for csv and tsv files would be amazing.

As someone who works with a lot of CSV files, I had been looking for a simple, well-designed viewer/editor like this for ages. Excel is a bloated mess with very poor defaults for opening CSV files. I had been using Tad, an open source equivalent, and it was functional but quite clunky. Easy CSV Editor nails it. The UI stays out of your way and feels very Mac-native. It elegantly handles all of the basic operations stuff like dragging & dropping a column to reorder it. And it has a lot of smarts – auto-detects delimiter characters, escape characters, line break formats, and preserves all of that on save. The only thing I didn't love was the default behavior of prompting to confirm format when opening new CSV files. (Understandably cautious, but too much friction for me.) That was easily disabled in the Preferences. This guy thought of everything.
  • The tool for BIG data sets

This tool has gone from strength to strength with UI improvements but, the core strength has always been it's ability to open and manage big data files - 100,000-500,000 rows of customer data takes a chunky few seconds to read but then, the app remains responsive and fluid - try the same in a regular spreadsheet app and watch it choke! Thanks!

I work directly with CSVs all the time, and this app does everything I want (and more!). It’s like my favorite features of a solid text editor and a spreadsheet combined into one, but much better for its specific purpose than either one. It’s fast, it’s flexible, and it has a beautifully clean interface that’s a pleasure to use. The five star ratings are well-deserved. Being elbow deep in data isn’t always fun, but I look forward to using this app (and I’ve been heartily recommending it to others!).
  • The CSV editor I was hoping for

It is like Excel, but strictly for CSVs. It has a lot of really useful stuff wrapped into a clean interface. Well worth the small price to avoid needing to open Excel or Numbers to work with CSVs... especially when I am going to open, edit, and save them back to being a CSV.
