  • Tricks you into paying for pro

    On iPhone, tricks you in the onboarding screens to paying for pro. You’re clicking through to try to use the dang thing and next minute you owe them $25 in three days. Even if you delete the app you have to deal with managing the subscription to not be charged. Also preselects podcasts for you in the new user onboarding screen with no option to search for and choose your own podcasts. Never even got past onboarding screens to use the app because within a few pages I already felt like the app is full of money grabbing snakes pushing their podcast advertisers on me.

    Was looking for a replacement podcast app, and this one checked all but two boxes. 1. Inability to change rewind/skip forward times. 2. Inability to turn off continuous listening. It seems like those features are in the Android version of the app, so I hope they can make their way over to the ios version sometime soon! Would turn to an instant 5 star review for me.

    They ruined this app as soon as they added video ads before my shows. Never had it before. App updates and boom multiple video ads before every podcast. That wouldn’t even bother me that much except for the fact that they never play right and they crash the app every time they come on rendering the app useless now. Great job!

  • Best podcast player but a few notes

    I listen to many podcasts but hate when Spotify reccomends podcast as I’m browsing music. I do not like my podcast and music life to get involved. The iPhone podcast app.....I don’t even think they spent more than 20 minutes developing that app. I didn’t realize how much I love this app until I deleted it to clear storage on my phone. I found myself itching for the clear library, filter/sorting system, and personalization. HOWEVER, no matter how much I love the app I will have to say I hate and I say HATE the community tab. It is full of Trump propaganda and Joe Roegan. I do not understand this feature at all. Why am I seeing comments for podcasts I hate or never listened to? I wish I could hide this tab. It puts me in such a bad mood to accidentally click it and see “MAGA” this “Trump won the election” that. Just...why?

    I really liked Castbox and used it for years. It was faster then apple podcasts and I like the option to switch play direction. Sure, the fact that you need to adjust the auto download feature every time you subscribe to a new podcast was annoying, but it played so much smoother than any other app I’d tried. It was great :) BUT the addition of ads affects the app’s overall usability. You have to wait upwards of 30 seconds to get out of the play screen and back to the podcast episode list screen if an ad is loading. Ads make the app take a ridiculous amount of time to open. Features take much longer to respond. It’s a pain to use. With that said, I haven’t noticed ads affecting podcast playback—so good on you there! :) I understand that ads keep things free, but when ads get in the way, you lose people to advertise to! (Which defeats the point, no?) 10/10 do NOT recommend this update!

  • I love this App BUT

    I love this podcast app because it is the only one that lets me save my subscriptions into folders/categories of my choice! However, I just recently switched from an android phone to the new iPhone 12 and for some reason I cannot get this app to work for me on iOS. I can log in and see all my subscriptions but when I press play nothing ever happens. It will just load and load forever. I’m listening to my favorite podcasts on the apple podcast app now but do not like the UX/UI on it and would really like to know why I can’t get castbox to work for me! Please help!
