Description

GyPSy Guide’s narrated driving tour for Grand Canyon South National Park is an excellent way to enjoy all the benefits of a guided tour while you explore at your own pace. There are 190+ audio points that play automatically along the tour route, featuring the best things to see and do, stories, tips and driving directions. Professional tour guides share advice on how to prioritize your time at recommended “not to be missed” viewpoints, suggested side-trips and places of interest. Tours work offline, using free GPS signal and location services, so no data roaming, network, or wifi is required while touring. Visit www.gypsyguide.com for route maps, sample commentary and tips & advice. It’s Just Like Having a Tour Guide in Your Car™ WHAT TO EXPECT: On the 1 – 1.5hr drive towards the Grand Canyon South Rim, listen to fascinating stories and a plan for exploring the Park. We’ll make a quick geology recap interesting, share the achievements of a woman who shined in the male dominated field of architecture, tell you about some of the local wildlife, recount the drama of some unscrupulous entrepreneurs and direct you to where you can learn more about local Native American tribes. Once inside the Park, we tour straight to the best viewpoints of Mather and Yavapai on a loop around Grand Canyon Village. Then our drive extends along Desert View Drive, to the many recommended viewpoints including Grandview, Lipan, Duck Rock, culminating with a visit to Desert View Watchtower. The tour officially starts and ends at Williams, Flagstaff or Cameron. Or you can join and pick up the commentary anywhere along the route. Narration will automatically trigger at the next commentary point. WHAT YOU’LL SEE: Highlights along the tour route include • Grand Canyon South Village • Mather Point • Lipan Point • Desert View Drive • Yavapai Point • Duck Rock • Grandview Point • Tusayan Ruins & Museum • Desert View Watchtower • Route 66 Town of Williams • San Francisco Peaks • Little Colorado River Gorge • Chapel of the Holy Dove Don't miss out on the best stops and stories. Enhance your National Park experience with our audio driving tours. BATTERY USAGE: ++ Continued use of GPS/Location Services in the background increases battery usage. We strongly recommend taking a cigarette style (DC outlet) car charger. Avoid using a direct connection to the USB port of a rental vehicle. IPADS: ** iPad models must include a GPS chip. Please note that Apple only install these on the iPad Wifi + Cellular models. Wifi only iPad models have limited location service capabilities and are unable to play commentary automatically. DOWNLOADING: The apps are larger in size in order to work offline. You must be on wifi to download as the store may block the download over cellular networks. • Solid narration but a little repetitive

Excellent guide but there are a few points that are a few years outdated (the Flintstone roadside attraction is now closed and is a birds of prey attraction). Also, the narration in and out from Williams and Flagstaff are nearly identical. So if you do a side trip to another city you end up hearing the same thing twice. Also, it seems to sometimes not play if the app is in the background even though it says it will. I still highly recommend if you’re the kind of person who reads all the signs next to the exhibits at a museum.

I bought this app after purchasing the Gypsy app for Yellowstone and Grand Tetons national parks. I was so impressed by the first app, I knew I needed this one when I went to the Grand Canyon. The app starts in Flagstaff (& other areas leading to GC) so there is a build up about the history of the area as you get to the Grand Canyon. Literally like having a tour guide in your car but at a tiny fraction of the price. The narrator has a pleasant voice and talks enough to be informative but not all the time so you can just enjoy the scenery as well. We went in August when there were no guided tours and limited rangers in the park due to COVID. That made this app all the more essential but I would highly recommend this app even when the park fully reopens. Since it operates on GPS, there’s no need to worry about Wi-Fi coverage. It worked flawlessly, always knowing where we were to tell us what attraction was coming up & some history about it. (Suggestion - I’d like to see a Gypsy app for the Sedona Arizona area. Having information about what you are seeing as you travel makes the experience all the more enjoyable & the Gypsy app does a great job).

I am so grateful that I read online about the Gypsy Guide App! It was a lifesaver!!! Our trip to the Grand Canyon would not have been as amazing without using the app. We easily found stops that we would’ve never known about. Loved hearing all of the history and stories from the past. Absolutely 100% recommend this app!

It just simply worked. So impressed with this app that we dove both versions. The Flagstaff starting point and the Williams starting point. Well done!

My husband and I had one day to ‘do’ the Grand Canyon. We toyed with the idea of doing a bus tour from Phoenix at $175 each. So glad we did this app. We were able to go at our own pace and do what we wanted not a prescribed tour. The narrative was fun and informative and even helped with directions. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

We thoroughly enjoyed the stories and suggested stops both in and around the Canyon. We were able to take in a lot more history and understanding than we would on our own! Well worth the six dollars!
  • Exceeded our expectations

This practical, easy to use app delivered on everything is promised. The guide was fun to listen to and provided great stories about the area as well as driving directions. I had no desire to book a “bus-trip” from Sedona to the Grand Canyon and this app made it easy and enjoyable to do the drive ourselves, at our own pace. I will definitely us their other guides for future travel.
  • Absolutely incredible!

A great value and loads of perfectly timed guidance, options and details that you would never figure out on your own. Bonus stories along the more highway speed driven areas. We loved it!
