First off, I am amazed the developer isn’t charging for this app. I have played with several similar apps and haven’t liked any nearly as much, even though a few were more feature laden. I use Recipebox to manually input and share recipes, and to import occasional recipes via url. My brother and I both have smokers, live on opposite sides of the country, and were looking for an easy way to share what we do, have tried, and would like to try. This fills the bill. It took a little playing with it to get used to and we are still figuring it out. I have found that sometimes, after a url import, the recipe doesn’t appear until I restart the app. It might be a function of the web page being visited. For example, if I import a recipe from King Arthur, it appears immediately. When I imported a recipe from a site with a lot of text before the recipe, and once when I shared a recipe with another RecipeBox user (once in several shares), the addition only appeared after restarting the app. A minor issue and I am still not convinced it might have been something I did. The developer appears to be actively engaged in development and I look forward to seeing what the future brings. 12/17/2020 - I have thoroughly enjoyed this app. Still amazed it’s free. The developers have a $4.99 add on that gives you a meal planner and grocery list. While I do not personally need either, I use this app so much I went ahead and paid for it by buying the extras.

Too many ads that get in the way of reading a recipe. Very annoying
  • Recipe lists

I would love to be able to see categories as an index and not see so much wasted space on boxes of recipe titles un sorted. Some processes are klutzy, like adding the category is seven steps.

I downloaded this app about a year ago and put all of my online recipes on it and deleted all my recipe links. Now because my tablet will not update any further I can’t open this app and I lost all of my recipes. I am super upset that I have to go find my recipes, which is a lot, over again online to use it on a different app on my android phone because apparently my tablet will not update any more which is some thing I’m mad about in itself.
  • Unable to share custom recipes

Whenever I share a link to a custom recipe that I made (I.e. getRecipeBox.com links) the person in the other end gets a null website and is unable to see the recipe. This issue is not seen when sharing recipe links from recipes found online. This is really disappointing because I can’t share my own recipes with family members. Please fix this issue. Also, if I share a recipe that I modified from recipe that is saved from a recipe found online the original recipe is shared and does not include my modifications. Please fix this. Other than those major issues, the app is great. Keep up the good work.

I love the ease of manually creating recipes, and in theory importing them. in theory because hitting import url might/might not work. I tried another user’s suggestion of restarting the ap, and that did not work. However after walking away for about 30 minutes, it was there when reopened. Sharing a recipe with another user also did not work. Even with these glitches, the entire interface is wonderfully easy to use. The section that allows you to discover other recipes is nice, as well as grocery lists & menu planning (one time fee of 4.99) I’ve finally been able to digitize some very old hand written recipes and categorize them to be easily found. If the developer gets these glitches sorted, I would rate this 5 stars.

I really really enjoy this app. I don’t think I understand how to use it or capabilities but it is amazing to import recipes directly into the app. I was also able to type up my recipes exactly the way that I want them with weighted measurements. And it all exists on my phone and syncs to my iPad. So I will always have these recipes available whenever we travel. Really great app
  • Best app I’ve downloaded in years

This app is incredible. I will likely stop using Pinterest to save recipes now that I’ve found Recipe Box. The import function itself is outstanding but add in the categorization, focus mode, grocery list generator...it has so many great features and so far it works just about flawlessly for me. No more scrolling through endless blogs to find the actual recipe! Nothing against passionate and witty bloggers, but after I’ve read it once I just want to make the recipe again it’s a pain to keep going back and scrolling. This app is a game changer for storing and making favorite recipes. Thank you!!
