  • Easy to use

MacFamilyTree version 9.2 is very easy to use. I like the format and I am still discovering new ways to present the family tree. I like that I can create and save subtrees to show specific branches within my family.
  • Robust product, sometimes a little confusing to use.

I started workign on my family tree using Ancestry.com. While this is an extremely useful platform, I wanted something over which I felt I had more contorl (and that didn't require a monthly membership). All of the reports this application provides, the granularity with which I can store information and media files etc, are excellent. I'm a big fan. The only thing I'd like to see changed is that certain interfaces were more intuitive. For instance, I cannot find a way to just have it display absolutely everyone who is connected to my tree. Depending on who I select in the "persons list", it affects who it has shown. Additionally, it seems like I can have persons stored in my databse who aren't ncessarily connected to my tree (which is fine). What seems silly is that there is not an obvious and easy way to connect an exsting person to a Tree. I would still highly recommend this application.

Program would be great if it sorted all of the fields of the place field
  • Use with caution

I feel a genealogy database is an important part of the program. This program uses Family Search. The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints operates this data bast. It is important that you take time and read their privay policy. Fortunately I read the privacy policy before registering for the database. The sad part is wasting $30 on a program I won't use due to the way my information can potentially be used.

I love this program to help me keep my genealogy in order and to search for new ancestors. Can't go wrong!

Great app. The price tag is certainly steep, but the app itself is worth it, especially because I plan to use it for several years. I would recommend it.
  • Too difficult

I am used to the Ancestry format, which I can follow. The format for this program is so convoluted that I can't get the big picture. I consider it a waste of money at this point. Sadly.
  • Clunky, but a lot of nice features.

It takes a long time to load. I have a brand new iMac and it struggles, even when it's saving after I add new people. Also, it bothers me how it merges families, sometimes dividing the children into two groups. I wish Sex was the first item to set, like many other programs do. I often forget to add the sex, then I add the spouse and realize they are both wrong. Once I change back the sexes the individuals are displayed in the wrong side of the screen. The graphics are the best of any program I've viewed and the price is reasonable.
  • Unwelcome change

I've worked with the other major names in genealogy apps and I like this one better, mainly because the interface is clean and modern, and it has all of the features that I need to research. The Familysearch integration is absolutely fantastic. Watching the tree grow in real-time and getting to choose which data to bring in from FS is next level. The photo colorization tool is really impressive. We're not there yet to have perfect colorization, but I saw a colorized photo of my great grandfather that was stunning to see his real skin tone. Support is good and responsive and updates are reasonable. While I do wish it were available for PC so the ecosystem would grow more, I really prefer this over all the other genealogy apps.
