  • Too many machine translations

    The app offers a lot of different titles, which is both a plus and a negative. It’s a plus because there’s a high chance you’ll find something you really enjoy regardless of how esoteric your tastes. But it’s a negative because it becomes very hard to find that title that you really like. Instead, about 9 our of 10 times, you’ll find titles that are either poorly written, poorly contrived, or just plainly everything you detest in a novel. It’s honestly incredibly hard to filter through the stories in a meaningful capacity, though the category tags can help mitigate the problem. Regardless of the sheer amount of novels, I’ve been able to find some real gems like “Legend of the Concubine’s Daughter Minglan”. However, there’s another feature of Flying Lines I want to talk about that’s been occurring recently. For some reason, there has been a surge of machine translations, and nearly all of poor quality. I really don’t see how an app that has IN-APP PURCHASABLE CURRENCY has the gall to release hundreds of MTLs and put them behind their in-app currency paywall. Yes, you can get the currency for free on the daily. But that amounts to less than 50 “SP” a day and a chapter can easily be upwards to 100sp. It’s just super annoying and it angers me that these MTLs haven’t even been proofread! There is almost no quality check to see if sentences make sense, pronouns are used correctly, or if words have even been translated right. The fact that the app has been releasing HUNDREDS of these POORLY EDITED MTLs and puts them behind a WALL is pathetic and poor business practice. At least make the chapters comprehensible, is that too much to ask?

    This app is overall great because of the amount of comics/manga you can read, but the thing i’m mostly here for is the way they advertise, I was on a game and saw an ad for this app. The other thing I see is fan art or a photo of Levi Ackerman, from Attack on Titan laying on Eren Yeager’s shoulder also from Attack on Titan. I just don’t think it’s right.. Levi is basically almost forty, Eren is nine teen. I’m not sure if they gave credit for the characters from Attack on Titan but whatever. I just suggest they change the way they advertise.

    It a good app. Great stories on it with great plot lines. I’d like to make a response however to one review who said the translation is lazy. Actually sometimes words can’t be translated correctly from one language to another. Often certain words don’t exist so they have to use or even adjust a sentence to accommodate that. Not being lazy just trying there best

    Good app overall, although I agree with five majority on how lazy translators are for books we PAID for. When I’m paying monthly I expect to at least have decent service in return. There’s also connection issues on their end when using the app, interrupting moments when I’m reading. Overall, good UI and quality of books to read.

  • Virus/Bug

    I genuinely love this app as it has many interesting stories and the genres are to my liking. However, I’ve been dealing with a bug lately and it hasn’t been fixed despite my report two weeks ago. Many chapters are filled with gibberish and the authors and other readers have contacted me saying that it wasn’t anything wrong on their end. If this gets fixed I will definitely give the app a five star rating.

    I really appreciate the translations & the night mode. However what makes it super annoying is that it randomly crashes and refuses to load anything. This happens often unfortunately.
