This app is good for sending messages and video chatting. However, it does not seem to push notifications when the app is not open, which is a simple thing that should be fixed.
  • Just for messaging?

For an app that is for messaging, they sure do require a ton of permissions... Find something else from a company that won't mine and sell your information.
  • Decent App, But Needs Work on Apple Silicon

Facebook Messenger is a great app, in that it is the full Messenger experience on macOS. However, there are two issues that I've seen since getting an M1 Mac: 1. This app is Intel-only. While it works in Rosetta, it does not work as well as it would if it is made a Universal app. 2. With an M1 Mac I've installed the main Facebook app as well. That is an iPad app on my Mac. However, that app doesn't recognize this app at all. As in, it tries to install the iOS Messenger app rather than opening this app as is the expected behavior.

This app is very quick… to crash. Guess I’ll just have to use messenger.com to video-chat with grandma this Christmas!
  • Split Screen issues

When video calling, it's very difficult to scale the split screen. there's no option to make it smaller or bigger than what's default.

It was fine on the early app launch but recent update have made the messenger would crash immediatelt after open. Tried to remove app and empty caches. Reinstall does not work. I am still using High Sierra 10.13.6 , no I can’t upgrade my mac OS anymore.
  • Horrible performance

Constantly flickering, eats up all kinds of memory and CPU, and makes my 2019 MBP run incredibly slow. Was ok for a while, but now it's incredibly buggy.

Was working fine and then got stuck updating. Couldn't start over. Couldn't stop it. So, I deleted it and moved on with my life.
