  • Not a great trial

I'm pretty advanced in the language I learn, but unfortunately the trial only covers the very first beginner lessons. For what the subscription costs and that you have to commit to at least three months, I'd really like to try the advanced levels first, even if just for a day. The beginner portion looked good though. Also, there doesn't seem to be any evaluation of your level to help you figure out where in the course to start. Even Duolingo has that.

This is a great program but you have to do it everyday for 20 minutes.

The Rosetta Stone app is easy to use and moves quickly through the lessons. The repetition reinforces the lesson and the visuals are spot on. So far.so good.

App is great for learning at a foundation or beginner level. Probably need to supplement for learning an alphabet or culture that isn’t similar to what Europe uses. One star off for bad audio over Bluetooth. This is the only app that has issues, it’s like it converts it to lower quality when using Bluetooth or something. I have to use wired headphone adapter on the iPad to make it sound ok. Another star off for pronunciation. Yeah, it works ok for European languages for the most part, but some languages it’s a joke. For example Chinese. I can say a word completely different word in a sentence and it will give me a perfect score even when set to hard. Just tried speaking jibberish on Arabic and it let me pass too. What’s annoying is when I’m close sometimes it doesn’t let me pass, but I just speak jibberish quickly in the middle and instant pass. Another star off for not tailoring lessons to the culture. It seems every language you learn the same set even when grammar/culture wise it could be easily better.

I’ve started to learn Hebrew, it’s been a pleasant experience so far. I’m also using Duolingo and drops. This is definitely better due to its visual cues and audio.

I’ve been proficient with Spanish for years, but I’ve let it flounder. I received this as a gift and it has been so much fun to get into the Spanish programs and to begin learning French. The lessons are short and fun, and it really is intuitive.

  • Farsi lessons are buggy

I keep getting words and sentences wrong even though I am saying them correct. I know I am saying them correct because my husband is a native Farsi speaker and when he says them he even gets them incorrect. Please fix this this is a very frustrating way to learn when you’re saying things correctly but keep getting them marked incorrect. Also, The mile stone lesson at the end of unit one is way too difficult to complete given the lessons that were there without translations. This is extremely disappointing as I am trying to learn Farsi to better communicate with my in-laws. I thought Rosetta Stone was a gold standard for learning a language especially one as difficult as Farsi but I guess that is not true. I did read several reviews saying Farsi on Rosetta Stone was not good but I still decided to push through as my husband is a native speaker and he could help me with the lessons. However even a native speaker cannot get through this tool. Please fix.
