This used to be a great app. Now when I try to use it, especially with Remote, there are SO MANY interface problems. Controls disappearing, improper connections between devices, blank screens. Sometime I have to reboot my whole phone. It's like you stopped updating and testing it, which is "fair"; I paid years ago. You got me :-\
  • No go as a webcam

Dont bother using this as a webcam. Latency makes it unusable. My set up. Iphone 11. Apple dongle. Elgato Cam link. Tried it on 3 computers with filmic at lower resolution and fps, but there were no differences and latency was still problematic. Emailed helpdesk several times for support but no response.

I’ve been using Filmic Pro for years. I actually started out on Android and loved it. When I bought an iPhone, this was one of the first apps I was going to get! Worth every dollar! The only issue I’ve had is when I purchased the cinematographer kit, none of the extra functions like the Log profiles or the shadow/highlight sliders work. My image stays the same. This also includes the saturation and vibrance sliders. I’ll be happy to change my review to a five star once this is fixed!
  • Default to 1080

I have lost hundreds of dollars of recording because if you activate the selfie cam it defaults to 1080 when you activate the 4K camera so you then record 1080 footage. You have to always reset it back to 4K, today we set a container on fire for a YouTube fire safety documentary. It was a 1 time shot and it’s ALL in 1080. My fault for trusting a toy app. So yeah this software is garbage if it cannot maintain its settings on a iPhone XS. I don’t have this issue using the Apple camera or my actual dslr forgetting settings.

  • Comically easy to mute your own audio

There is a lot to love in this app, but it is comically easy to mute your own audio in this app, not realize you have done so, then shoot hours of video with no audio. It really is a design flaw and is incredibly frustrating. To shoot 10 seconds of video, you have to spend 30 seconds checking and double checking every freakin setting, somethings they save, sometime don’t, no idea why. I’m just after this last shoot with no Audio. Even when shooting anamorphic I going to start trying something else.
  • Unable To Locate New “Stereo Audio”

On iOS 14.3 on a 12 Pro Max and “Stereo Audio” does not exist under any toggle on the current installation and reinstall of this app.
  • Ruined by Dynamic Tone Mapping

There is one reason I was interested in Filmic Pro: Fully manual exposure control. This is not actually possible with Filmic. You can lock the shutter, lock white balance, lock everything down... and as your scene changes, so does the exposure. This isn’t a problem if your scene is very static and does not change at all. However, let’s say you have a shot that begins with a well lit subject, and you want to follow them as they move through a dark hallway, or a subject that moves in front of a bright window: suddenly the image dims or brightens, ignoring your locked exposure settings. From what I have read, this is caused by Apple’s Dynamic Tone Mapping, which forces these adjustments, and that there is nothing Filmic can do about it. For that reason, I sympathize with Filmic if this is caused by Apple and there is nothing developers can do about it. Regardless, the result is that I have no true manual exposure control on my iPhone. This is a dealbreaker, as some of the shots shift exposure mid shot, becoming unacceptable for use. I was coming around to the idea that for my purposes, new model iPhones could be an acceptable platform for shooting video. After months of experimenting, I have concluded this is not the case.
  • Great app with fatal bugs

I love this app but have had to stop using it due to pernicious bugs. The first one I noticed was that some videos get corrupted when the app thinks there is no more space on the device, even though there is plenty. It would be great to at least see a warning pop up in this scenario. The second bug is that the video freezes randomly in videos. The developer replied quickly to my first email but then disappeared. So now I’m just using it to check my framing using the Remote app and then switching to the built-in camera app.
