Description

The venerable U.S. weather app Wx, named a Mac Gem by Macworld magazine, has been reinvented! Wx displays current conditions, forecasts, warnings, and radar for U.S. locations using high fidelity XML data from the U.S. National Weather Service. The app is designed for two specific types of customers: serious weather watchers who want detailed information and facts with no fuss, and casual users who want a fast, clean, and functional weather app. Wx lets you set up locations on an embedded map, guiding you to choose nearby NWS observation sites (over 1700 available in the U.S. and its territories), nearby NEXRAD radar sites, and nearby city- and county-based alert zones. The app sets up a 7-day summary "point" forecast customized for the specific latitude and longitude of the location, and a 7-day “pro” forecast that graphs temperature (actual and apparent), dew point, relative humidity, cloud cover, wind speed, wind direction, gust speed, 12-hour probability of precipitation, 6-hour liquid precipitation amount, and 6-hour snow amount. Wx’s pro forecast is also latitude/longitude based, and is about as good as it gets if you need to plan work, sports, and outdoor activities based on upcoming weather. With their high spatial resolution, the point and pro forecasts are especially useful in coastal and mountainous regions where typical zone forecasts can be inaccurate. These forecasts are backed up by a regional text forecast bulletin for additional information. Wx also lets you bookmark and setup weather maps for quick reference. Choose from over 40 default NWS maps and images, or provide the URL for any map of your choice and load it right in the app! If you have preferred weather providers or use a private weather service, you can load your favorite maps and images right in Wx and keep them handy. Other features of Wx include a display of weather conditions in the dock icon, seven day sun and moon phase information, and a high performance radar display with seven types of radar on a zoomable live map. Wx is crafted with attention to detail by an award-winning professional software developer with 29 years of experience, 17 years focused on developing software for Macs and 11 years writing apps for iOS devices. Wx has been reinvented from the ground up. Under the hood, Wx has all new download and processing engines, and is faster than ever. It's more reliable than ever too, offering multiple levels of redundancy to handle severe weather events that can strain NWS servers. Wx is also available for iPhone and iPad. For more info, see hrtapps.com or look in the iOS App Store. For tech support, bug reports, feedback, and feature requests, contact the developer by e-mail. I have had this app for several years the improvements have made it more than useful during monsoon season in Arizona, radar picks up more than enough details to know which direction the storms are heading and how severe the storm cells are allowing time to more things to safe locations.
  • Latest update doesn't work

Just downloaded and installed the latest update and it doesn't pull data from the NWS to update the point forecast and it scrambled the locations I've been checking and deleted a couple. At 9:08AM I tried again and it works though some of my stored locations are still missing. They're not hard to add back so I'm happy.

This app is extremely versatile because it can be customized so well. It's extensive features rival and surpass any weather app I've used before. I use it every single day....and have been now for several years.

i would have given 5 stars, but it seems that the observation site doesn't always connect and I get errors a lot lately. Been going on now the past few months.

I love this App. We live in the country and have a very distinct micro-climate on our little mountain and valley. This App stands tall above others in getting us accurate information and granular detail on local weather conditions. We've tried many others, but this App is the best.

This is a terrific weather app for the Mac. I've tried many others, and while all have thier stringhts and weaknesses, I always seem to return to Wx as my "go-to", default app. Easy to use, setup, and understand. Highly recommend this very well engineered weather app.
