Description

"This really is the synth that keeps on giving! Inspiration and intuition truly blend together in this musical instrument." Alan Parsons Sunrizer Synth is a virtual analog synthesizer that takes the definition of iOS synthesizer to the next level. Thanks to carefully designed architecture and heavy usage of coprocessor it blurs the boundaries between iOS and hardware synthesizers. Sunrizer was built to perform and works perfectly with any MIDI keyboard or sequencer. A lot of research has been done in order to achieve unheard warmth and clarity. HIGHLIGHTS · True SuperSaw sound emulation, first found in the legendary Roland JP-8000 synthesizer. SuperSaw is a layered waveform consisting of multiple saw waves which are detuned to create an extremely full and epic sound. · Two filters per voice with configurable routing. 15 filter types available, including less common like Comb, Formant or Frequency shifter. · The Morph Group function lets you continuously morph of up to 30 parameters in a sound (including effects), using only the modulation wheel. · Full support for CoreMidi, MIDI mapping, Virtual Midi Ports and background audio. · Multi mode lets you multiply oscillators to get unbelievably fat and full sound. · Support for microtuning - load scl and tun files. Create fascinating microtonal music which uses intervals not found in the Western system of 12 equal intervals to the octave. OSCILLATORS · 2 warm-sounding analog modelled oscillators, 2 sub-oscillators (except SuperSaw). Available waveforms: Saw, PWM pulse,Triangle, SuperSaw, FM (frequency of phase modulation). 6 oscillators per voice in multi-sono mode. · Oscillator 2 hard-sync and configurable routing · FM (true frequency modulation) and PM mode · Osc-mix, ring modulator · White noise oscillator FLEXIBLE MULTI FILTERS · Two independent filters per voice with configurable routing. Filter types: LPF, HPF, BPF, Analog LPF, Notch, Comb, All pass, Power LPF, Power BPF, Wave shaper, Resonator, Resampler, LPF+Resampler, Frequency shifter. · Configurable routing: serial or parallel with bypass option. · ADSR envelope, keyboard tracking and full LFO control. MODULATION · Two LFOs per voice. It's possible to assign each LFO to almost any parameter. 3 LFO running modes: trigger, 1 shot, global. 6 waveforms, phase and fade-in knobs. · The Morph Group function lets you continuously morph of up to 30 parameters in a sound (including effects), using only the modulation wheel. · Two Modulation ADSR Envelopes for amplitude and filters cutoff. · Pitch and modulation wheels. EFFECTS · A number of effects are built in: distortion, hi-q reverb, chorus, rotary speaker simulation, equalizer, phaser and stereo delay. Dual-band FX processing. ARPEGGIATOR · Sunrizer incorporates very powerful programmable arpeggiator. You should think of it more like a small step sequencer. OTHER FEATURES · Over 380 presets, 7 additional banks available for FREE in web library (more coming soon) · Hold button allows you to to keep notes sustaining until you play new notes · With Chord Memory function you can play the chord by only pressing single keys · Phrase sequencer · Compatible with AudioBus · Adjustable polyphony: 6-20 voices · Playback modes: poly, solo, arp · Built-in recorder supporting AudioCopy, DropBox and iTunes file sharing. · Supports AUv3, MIDI, IAA, AudioBus 2.0 Visit www.beepstreet.com for user manual and audio demos. * Sunrizer is now available on Mac and PC, check our website for more info "Specs aside, the most important thing is the sound… and it’s great." musicradar.com "Sunrizer is the first truly mature polyphonic synth for the iPad, a real, smooth and powerful sounding option for all sorts of stage and studio performances." • Just learning but so far it’s nothing short of amazing

Just started using this synth app today and I have to say that this absolutely blows away every other synth app for the IPad. I own 10 hardware synths and the sounds on this truly rival my Minilogue XD, Roland FA and Microfreak to name a few. I’ll update this review with more of a user realization but right now I am just blown away by the sounds and deep, deep arpeggiator.

A lot of app don’t let you control patch changes with outboard midi. This is a very underrated app.

Superior sound quality that can emulate a variety of classic analog synths as well as morphing textures never before experienced by Earthlings' ears. Very expressive with loads of adjustment levers, sliders, knobs and switches available on the main screen plus a plethora of deeper editing screens that are quite easy to navigate with dedicated buttons located across the top of the main menu. Instant gratification via tons of free presets and the developer continues to update with amazing effects and options. It's quite easy to find a desired sound defined by category, manipulate to taste and save to a new folder. This just might replace a set list (if I can ever get all those confounded lyrics memorized). Only a couple of nitpicks at this time: 1) The slide option for the onscreen keyboard being a tad clunky and jittery, but a mute point if one is using hardware controller keyboards as most would for serious studio work. Once a key is triggered on the screen, sometimes you must lift up and touch again with the intention to slide. Yet during semi-quick runs the keyboard often slides a bit, hindering accurate notes. Perhaps I just need more practice. Sure would be nice to have octave switch buttons. 2) No velocity available over MIDI? However the on-screen keyboard does simulate it with the loudest notes triggered when keys are touched closest to the player, softer as the keys are touched closer to the virtual pivot-point. I have tried nearly every iOS synth and this one edges out several others that are narrowed down to my favorites folder mostly because of the immense variety of sounds from the mega lush morphing pads to intense over-the-top distorted leads, plus the speaker melting hugeness capable with this engine; not to mention the ease of further sound manipulation with the well placed and complete set of modulation interfaces. Many hardware synths are jealous of Sunrizer.

I have tried just about every synth app i can find and this is my favorite!
  • The iPad version is unbelievable, iPhone version isn’t.

Of all the iOS synths I own, this is my very favorite synth, PERIOD! I can’t give it higher praise. The depth and complexity of the tones takes me to new levels of inspiration & creativity. It’s on the WOW FACTOR level to hear it. Today I purchased the iPhone version, and it is NOT a duplicate of this version. What I do on the iPad version is take a patch that I like and start playing with every parameter, and am rarely unsatisfied with the changes. With the iPhone version I can’t get any patch modified or stock to sound 1/10 as good as the iPad version. I hope the developers can do their magic on the iPhone version to get it to be more like its big brother.
  • Rather disappointed. Buggy.

I can’t really hear the raved “warmth” of this synth, at least not in the presets that come with it, they all sound pretty harsh and digital to my ear. Since it’s an old app, maybe it was simply surpassed by other apps? Some presets sounds have slight click/pop at the beginning of the sound when playing polyphony (for example “Sensoramic” preset) and tweaking attack in the amp and filter envelopes does not cure it. A bug where initializing the synth (by choosing “Init” from Synth Tools menu) incorrectly displays the mode when it was loaded after a preset which was in ARP mode. It states that the preset is in POLY mode but it plays an ARP, you need to cycle through the modes to correct it. Completely unreliable and frustrating “chord” function. It takes multiple attempts to store the chord, sometimes the previously stored chord is not updated. Frustrating that the chord gets assigned to one of the keys used when creating it, but it’s kinda random which one. For example, if you press keys C, E and G it will (when you’re lucky!) assign this C Major chord at the C pitch to either C, E or G key! ***Update*** the Chord function works but chords need to be programmed in a way that is NOT described in the manual, otherwise it will not work: follow the steps in the user manual for the chords creation BUT then when you are holding the “Chord” button while depressing keyboard keys to be used in the chord you want to store, FIRST release the “Chord” button THEN the keyboard keys. If you release the keyboard keys before releasing the “Chord” key, the chord will not be stored properly. This is not described in the manual (or maybe developer is not aware of this quirk). No clear indication of LFO assignments. Many synthesizers such as Factory, Helm, etc, provide a visual representation of which parameter is controlled by LFO. In Sunrizer not only is there no such indication but on top of it the names of the parameters are not consistent across the synth. For example, the Filter has a parameter and its knob labeled “Cutoff” but that parameter is named “FLT 1 Freq” in the LFO section, which makes it confusing. More sloppy labeling : “>” is a math symbol, should not be used as anything else, especially in a context of talking about values, frequencies, etc. For example, in the Synth Tools menu one of the tools is labeled as “LFO 1 freq > LFO 2 freq” which is confusing as it should mean “LFO 1 freq is greater than LF0 2 freq”, meanwhile what it means in this app is that LFO 1 freq is supposed to be equal to LFO 2 freq. Well, the sign for this has been “=“ since very long time ago! More confusion and inconsistent labeling, this time it’s even described in the manual: “ When SuperSaw is selected, - Width/Sub knob controls the depth of detune, - Mix/PWM knob controls the volume level of detuned sound.” Except there is no knob labeled “width/sub”. If the knobs control those parameters with this oscillator type, why isn’t it clearly indicated in the knobs’ labels? It should be possible to type in exact values of parameters, sometimes it is critical to dial in exact number, which is not possible by turning the knobs, they are not precise enough. No arrows outside on the panel for quick presets browsing, have to dive into the menu. The pull down menu does not disappear automatically when you touch parameters section, lots of unnecessary touches just to close the menu. The arp controls look promising. Cool BMP input method, it’s very quick to adjust, I’m surprised it’s not used by other apps.
