  • When I thought it couldn’t get any worse

Time to update my review. I have increased my rating by one star. That mainly reflects that the authentication issues are resolved. The left wing slant remains in a substantial way. What really needs to be added to the application is the ability to filter out Editorials and other opinion pieces out of the Latest News and Top Stories sections. There is an Opinion of its own, and that is where the ignorance and bigotry should reside with polluting the main sections. Unfortunately, the application does not have an option to exclude opinion.
  • Why, why

Why must I sign in to read every story on the app? Suggestion....allow automatic viewing of STAR-posted stories to subscribers on FB of twitter. The platform is not user-friendly
  • Unreliable Connectivity

The app may start but the documented feature related to the K C Star eEdition is always an adventure. Errors occur either in the app trying to initiate the eEdition or when trying to access the eEdtion in Safari. Clearing cache and cookies in Safari does not always work. Power cycling the iPad does not work. Forget K C Star “customer support”. They may or may not reply to your problem, and IF there is a resolution, it could be days later. This does not merit any stars, but it is not possible to rate zero stars.
  • Worst app ever!

After about two day of reading, the app refuses to recognize my login or password. I constantly have to delete and reload the app. In this day and age such a poor application is really unacceptable.
  • Poor UI, Unstable

I love the Star’s content but the app is poor. The user interface feels antiquated. It crashes often. It does not allow basic functions like zoom, outside of fixed settings like increased text size for all articles. This is an area where McClatchy is grossly trailing other news organizations. I hope they make an investment in a modern and more usable app in the near future.
  • Too Many Ads

I really enjoy The Star’s content but for $15/month I expect an ad-free experience. The banner ad at the bottom of the app is distracting and takes up too much real estate. The e-edition of the paper is the main reason I use the app, but all the app really provides is a link to the e-edition that opens in Safari with yet even more intrusive ads. It would be nice if the e-edition was contained within the app itself. The ads really are a shame because otherwise the app is well designed compared to most other newspapers’ apps.

Why is the KC star app pasting clipboard data when the application is opened? This is creepy and a breach of privacy.
  • Horrible updates

I pay a yearly fee to access the online version of the star and i can no longer access the star on my older iPad. This is ridiculous! Please fix!

There is nowhere now to specifically leave a complaint about your carrier which there are used to be I guess the Kansas City Star gets so many complaints about their carrier they did away with that you have to call Lynn Direct if you want to complain about your carrier with Customer-service like this I have no idea how they stay in business

The Kansas City Star has been bought out by Chatham Hedge Fund which is the owner of the National Inquirer.. They have subtly changed from being objective to blatant right wing propaganda..
