About Cook’s Illustrated Cook’s Illustrated, launched in 1993, is located just outside Boston where a team of more than three dozen test cooks, editors, and cookware specialists work in a 2,500-square-foot test kitchen. Our mission is to test recipes over and over again until we understand how and why they work and until we arrive at the “best” version of a particular recipe. The result, we hope, is the best version of a particular recipe, but we realize that only you can be the final judge of our success (or failure). As we like to say in the test kitchen, “We make the mistakes so you don’t have to.” Along with developing recipes, our test kitchen team exhaustively tests kitchen equipment and does blind tastings of supermarket ingredients to tell home cooks which brands to buy…and which to avoid. More than one million Cook’s Illustrated readers rely on Cook’s Illustrated reviews to make smarter decisions about which cooking products and ingredient brands to buy. Cook’s Illustrated recipes, testings, and tastings can be found in Cook’s Illustrated magazine and cookbooks, online at CooksIllustrated.com, or featured on our public television show, America’s Test Kitchen.

Terrible update. Magazine is now just a much less readable pdf copy. I understand having this as an option for people that want to use less space on their device, but they shouldnt make it standard. May stop my subscription instead of having to use this piece of junk.

It does not matter if your a experienced chef or a novice home cook, there’s something for everyone in this magazine. I’ve learned so much. It’s an easy read and extremely well written. It’s a must have in my humble opinion.

Dear sirs: I love your magazine , but could you please update this app, I find your current display of your magazine not reader friendly. Could you please consider going back to the old one? I have been a digital subscriber for many years and I also am a subscriber to your web page. I love to cook and always turn to the experts for advice.

The app doesn’t let me access equipment tests! Search blenders and I got recipes using blenders. USELESS!!!
  • Ruined a great app

Since they changed to a new format and do not permit the saving of recipes, the app is virtually useless. The app also has a very bad search function and service is non responsive. When they bother to respond, they don’t answer the question that was asked. It is so sad what they have done to an app that used to be great.
  • Scrolling not working

When opening the recipe page and at the top is an introduction and tips for the recipes, the scrolling to read the complete words does not work. This should be fixed.
  • Great app, but I already subscribe!

Why should I have to pay yet another fee to access the recipes electronically? I already subscribe to the magazine and the website. I’m tempted to cancel my paper subscription (more expensive than the app, frankly) and just go with this. ATK, you’re getting greedy here - where is the option for those of us already paying you?
  • Not that nice to use

I love this magazine, but this app isn’t enjoyable to use. It’s clunky, downloading options are difficult to understand, controls are inconsistent (eg sometimes tapping on a page advances to the next section; other times it brings up the menu), if you don’t swipe perfectly horizontal, it scrolls up/down rather than turning the page, etc. Also, why can’t you download older issues? It also kills me that you can’t search for recipes across magazine: how are you supposed to find anything? And I miss the b&w images that would fade to color. That was a nice touch, which I guess they removed.
