  • Buggy, erratic, weird

    I've been using Pocket for around a year. I'm now shopping for another app to store my research stuff. Just today I opened the app and got a blank (although tasteful beige) screen. Nothing else. Some stuff gets saved; other stuff doesn't--go figure. The "tags" are problematic--one day I checked the archive and it told me I had no rtagged items. The next day they were back. Huh? Then there Pocket's relentless urge to turn an article into its own format, so getting back to the original post is a pain. Whazzat? Then, like all social media, it wants to dump its "curated" (ie, censored) stuff into my lap. Useless and just as sinister as any other platform's opaque algorithms. Gotta be something better.

    This app hasn't been updated in a year and is behind the features available on the website. One of the most glaring issues is the lack of dark mode, which the web version has.

    Pocket really needs to enhance this Mac app, maybe bring over the iPadOS app. Won't be renewing Premium until a change is made and Big Sur updates are released. Sharing using Save to Pocket does not work in Big Sur.

    When we click to share button on Safari and choose the Pocket, it does nothing. Maybe this is BigSur bug or Pocket. I cheked the Extensions on Preferenses and pocket its already selected. But it never share.

    I truly enjoy using the Pocket service. I primarily use it to stay focused on whatever my task at hand is. I see an article/tutorial/post that's interesting but I don't want to get distracted so I save it for later. Very helpful. I only have one piece of constructive criticism about the Mac App: There is no option to Sign in with Apple. This is what I used to sign up for my account originally, so without that option I am unable to sign into the Mac App. Would really appreciate that feature.

    I was excited about the idea of Pocket then I downloaded it and was very quickly no longer excited. It keeps saying error when trying to save articles, there is not a quick way to save them directly from your browser unless you download Save to Pocket which only works with Safari--not the browser I use or that many people use, and finally aside from the fact that you can read articles offline it is much more cumbersome than just saving to bookmarks. And, if I am wrong about any of this because I haven't played with the app enough then I still say it's a poor app because one of the best markers of a good app is how user friendly and easy to navigate it is. This is not, very disappointed.

    It's really good, but would love to see decent dark mode. It's been partially added but without much conviction. The iOS app is great in dark mode on the other hand, so there's that.

  • Needs An Update!

    This really needs an update!! The web version of pocket has already moved on, but this is stuck with how it look five years ago. I am happy to change the rating once this has been updated.
