  • M1 support poor

OneDrive was buggy on an Intel MBP running Catalina. Same when I upgraded to Big Sur. Now I've got an M1 Mac and it won't even log in, error 400, bad header. I don't often bother to write reviews, but this is after years of half-hearted SD card support in the Android app as well, where removing photos from the device that're already in the cloud to free storage literally means only the device. OneDrive has consistently for the past several years I've been using it been the worst sync service I've used, I only stick with it because it's bundled with the Office apps which I need for work and because it's relatively cheap. If any of those elements of the equation change, Hello iCloud.

Way, way too many issues for "premium" service of $100/yr (I'm on the premium family plan). Dropbox, iCloud, GoogleDrive all do much better job at this, but it seems MS is still very much windows-first company. The app is very buggy, requires advanced knowledge to setup, uses 10-15%CPU all the time and can't finish synchronizing. - Vault is not visible on the mac. Have to use browser or mobile app - drag& drop of new files doesn't update cloud. In fact after a restart, the added local files are just deleted. - The app does not work on case-sensitive file system. Had to setup a separate volume as case insensitive APFS for onedrive (welcome to '81 people!) Practically useless and cannot be trusted to safely keep your files.

Pin wheel after install, can't click on any of the onedrive controls. I thought the problem was my 10 year old macbook, now i see the problem is onedrive.

I put the Microsoft Office apps on my new iPad, I have Office 365 on my PC and had Office 2011 on My iMac. Find that I can’t use my Google Drive with the iPad apps from Microsoft. OK, price I pay for using Apple. For a while, I used OneDrive on the PC and moved files from Google Drive as needed. Loaded up OneDrive from the App Store on my Mac and try to sign in with my Microsoft account. Right away, OneDrive gives me an error and repeats it reliably too: Bad Request - Invalid Header HTTP Error 400. The request has an invalid header name. I can get into OneDrive if if say create account and log in from there. But this is a Web interface. If I give a diifferent or bogus email, it knows it is not a valid Microsoft account holder. But my valid email fails. Retried a month later after updating to MS Office to 2016 (moved license) and OneDrive worked for short time. A reboot resumed with the same error as before. Tried the reset process multiple times. What an awful product. Microsoft, I’ve been using Word since version 1.05 on my MacPlus in 1985. Used Office at work and home since. I love OneNote. But OneDrive fails me. For a company so into the cloud, this product is a fail.
  • Painfully slow

On an M1 Mac, it appears to be working, but is ridiculously slow. I saw it “appears” to be working, because over the past two hours, I see additional folder appearing in my OneDrive folder. Compared to OneDrive on Windows or other cloud storage solutions, it is essentially unusable.
  • Literally the worst piece of software I use

Do not use. 10/10 would not recommend. Consistently over 3 years and multiple OSs and OS updates (iOS, WIndows 10, macOS), OneDrive syncing is truly the worst. On macOS (and Windows 10), the sync client is absolutely terrible. Right now, for example, it's consuming 100% of my i9 CPU and running my fan at max capacity "processing 68,392" changes, despite the fact that I haven't changed anything in OneDrive for 4 days and it's been running every day and was "up to date" just an hour ago. This kind of behavior is very typical of OneDrive. The UI is also always very laggy. Will also randomly present the UI as if you've never signed in before and ask you to sign in for the first time. It's certainly going to be a pain to switch to something else, but I'm certain it will be worth it. I kept trying to be patient, thinking eventually they'd make it actually work. I wish I wouldn't have and that I would have switched to something else a long time ago. If you're thinking of giving OneDrive a chance, don't.
