  • I wanted to learn to speak French...

Not spell it!! The lessons were tedious and not helpful to me. Consequently I did not stick with it. I will try another app and hope for better results.
  • Having issues with speaking

This app is great in that it has you practice speaking but I’m getting upset when it says I’m saying something wrong without telling me what I need to fix. I had my partner listen to me say the phrase and we can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. Other than that I’m enjoying learning the language and more about Mexican culture.

Why not just use Duolingo? And these guys make it so extremely complicated to cancel a subscription.
  • App needs work

I love Babbel but this app is full of problems. Speech recognition is spotty and available letters to spell answers are hidden.
  • Learned more than RosettaStone

I’ve learned more in the trial version on Babble than I did in 3 months of RosettaStone! It actually teaches you as if you were texting with someone and extremely interactive and descriptive!
  • Best for learning languages

I still think Babbel is the best app for learning languages, but it’s not perfect: - The number one improvement that would increase my use of Babbel is easier changing of learning language. - Another annoyance is that I had learned thousands of words in my first learning language when Babbel added a second English option for app language. You currently can’t change app language without losing all progress. It would be better if progress in learning languages wasn’t tied to app language. I’ve also enjoyed the Babbel podcasts. I normally listen to those with the Podcasts app, not the Babbel app. [Previous review] Babbel is the best app/website for learning a new language and worth the subscription price. It teaches concepts rather than simply presenting words and phrases for memorization. They've recently fixed some longstanding bugs in the reviews feature. The disadvantage of using this multi-language app over individual language Babbel apps is that this one doesn't remember your place when switching languages. That's a big drawback for multi-language learners. For that reason, it may be worth downloading multiple specific language Babbel apps if you have room on your device.
  • “Oops something went wrong”

Well, trying to use the app. It worked for a little while but now every time I start it up I get a page with “Oops something went wrong.” If I try to access my settings it’s logged in, but I can’t seem to do anything. And if I click on”courses” to see what I’ve completed or browse for new courses all I get is “An unknown error occurred.” Guess it’s time to switch to something else...

I would prefer to avoid writing. I want to learn to speak the language. I don’t need to write it.

Please update app to have a light / dark background feature. I am learning Spanish to speak to my baby and my husbands family at night while breastfeeding. Would be incredibly helpful if this feature were available so the light from the app can be inverted so it doesn’t bother or wake my infant. Perfect app otherwise! Very useful and I’m learning so much, thank you.
