  • NOT COMPATIBLE WITH BIG SUR

This would be like Microsoft not testing their SQL server with the latest version of Windows. Worked great as a MDM solution... only until Big Sur broke it and no one knows if/when update will be released.

How the migthy has fallen, Apple foregot about the people that kept the company in business when no one wanted their products. This is not a Business client nor is it for personal use. Apple has slapped us in the face, they update their OS and this is not compatabile with Big Slur. So if you use the already crippled Server app and upgrade your MDM devices are not reachable nor can you open this software. shame on apple...

  • MDM Server, not a Network Server

This app should have been renamed: It's Apple MDM Server. The longstanding network and information services capabilities have unfortunately been deprecated and removed. This means server migrations to other platforms and to NAS boxes for those folks requiring on-premises storage, or requiring on-premises network services.
  • Mail Server

I find it the only Mac based mail server. The mail works for me. I use MAMP for other services. Definitely not perfect.

This used to be a server app and now, If I want to use this "server", Apple states: This version of Server does not support upgrading the Server data on this volume. To upgrade your Server data, you will need to install an older version of Server and OS X. Sure - No problem, Apple. I'll degrade my services so that I can keep using this. The only reason now that I wanted to keep using this was for Deploy Studio and to deploy images over the network. Why don't you just put out a notice to all that you are discontinuing the Server App and you're focusing on iPhones?
  • A disgrace

I ran Server at multiple small- and medium-sized businesses. I still do at some, though on OS X 10.12, and an old version of the Server app. That (and perhaps one on 10.13) were the last usable versions. Sure, they weren't as robust as the Server in 10.6, but they worked OK. I'm not upset about some of the stuff being removed — mail, for example, is something best handled by Microsoft or Google these days — but core file sharing, VPN, and again, core file sharing are critical. In fact, if they just had decent file sharing and server monitoring, I'd be happy. Now, we have a useless piece of software. If you must use a Mac for file sharing, just use the OS and buy TinkerTool System to adjust inheritance and so forth. It works, though it may take you a few tries to get it right. Unfortunately, for shops that really want a Mac server, that ship has basically sailed. And as we bring in Windows servers for those who need onsite servers, then the clients wonder if maybe the desktops should be Windows too. Bad move, Apple.
