I needed a solution to record my screen in retina so I could have a 4k recording and be able zoom-in on areas to see detail. My final video would be 1080 but I needed the source to be 4k and record just a portion of my screen.
The app description says it records in 4k and 5k - but the app doesn't do it. It shows the 2x scaled down sizes, not the actual pixel sizes. Really frustrating to trust and pay and then it just doesn't do it.
Can I do no stars?

Have licesenses to almost everything that records a screen. Big part of my workflow. Grew up using Camtasia on Windows, over a decade at this point. Camtasia 2020 is a decent recorder, outstanding editor on both platforms (but weaker on the Mac). But, in terms of codecs, quality of compression, and output, I would rate it the weakest of these three, on the Mac. If I am animating or annotating, this remains my fave of the 3. No HEVC though. Boo.
Screenflow 9.0.3 is a solid little product, much more tightly coded from a native OS X perspective. It captures and outputs very well, but have never quite liked it much as an editor. I usually just output and dump in to DaVinci resolve Studio. It's only $100 or so per year, but this is likely my last year updating.
Screenium 3 has made huge leaps since I purchased 3 years ago. Intuitive little interface, tightly integrated with the OS. I use Screenium for one thing, capture and output. I do not edit in it, although you could if it was all you had. I do not animate, annotate or do anything but capture. But, WOW, it absolutely rocks in terms of quality and control. The best of breed, for screen capture and screen output on the Mac, IMHO. Fast, and the developer really keeps up with new OS and OS X beta releases. Well, worth the money, IF, you edit in other programs.

This app records the screen and the audio. You can either talk while recording or do a voiceover after the recording. It also has an option of recording only a window. It's a very powerful yet easy-to-use tool!

I have been using Screenium since version 1 to prepare tutorials for our software. Overall, this software does the job, captures your screen, or a portion of it, with multiple audio tracks.
I am updating to reflect changes in version 3.2.9. Until macOS Catalina, Screenium was able to export to HEVC using hardware acceleration, which was awesome. For some reson (I contacted Screenium support over this), this no longers works in MacOS 10.15.1 because Apple changed something. Otherwise, Screenium is reliable and stable.

I paid the $50 for this after having purchased the previous v2 because that version was not supported on Catalina OS. Not pleased.
I'm trying to use for building sales and marketing videos. When I click on a button on web app, it shows the mouse cursor repeated 20 times on the screen. Huge bug that makes the app not useable.
Further I asked Apple for a refund and they refused immediately (no human intervention, auto response) saying that refund not allowed by Terms.
I would say buyer beware on this app. Very disappointed by the time wasted.

I've used ScreenFlow for years, and it is certainly top-shelf and a potent tool for professionals. The upgrade cost has given me pause, though, not because it's not worth it; it is. But rather because I don't use it on a daily or weekly basis to justify that cost.
Then I found this one more or less by accident. Read the reviews and laughed at those one-star ratings. Seriously?
Step 1: Pay attention to what you're doing, read all the information that pops-up during first-run. (ALL screen-capture software require an additional sound driver installed to record system sounds, *including ScreenFlow*.)
As for the "speed" of processing? Entirely similar to ScreenFlow and even FINAL CUT X.
And what about those seriously misleading gripes, like the one complaining about having to press the Enter key to start recording? Ummmm. It's a 10-second, and you only press the Enter key to skip that and begin recording immediately. Some people tell a story in such a way as to intentionally make someone (in this case: this software_ look bad.
Here's the real story on this app: OUT-FARKING-STANDING.
It also has way more features than the (old) version of ScreenFlow I currently have (Though the current version surely is now up-to-par with this).
It is intuitive to use, and fantastic integration with your Photos App and includes both fun-themed and professional-themed treatments in overlay text styles, animations, ability to zoom into and out of portions of your video.
I am fortunate that I already know the possibilities (and how to do it) because of my Experience with ScreenFlow (for example: to zoom into your video to highlight a particular area, then zoom back out again will require you to set markers, etc.).
Hit the HELP button, read up on what it can do and how to do it.
Even at full price, this app is seriously worth every penny. I'm happy I found it on Holiday sale, which doubles an already outstanding value.

I can comment to some of the reviews...
...the audio requires a download not on the app store... install and you will have capacity to record computer audio...
... record the video edit and export... I was able to export a 5 minute recording and 150 mega byte file in about 3 minutes...
... what I've seen so far is good... i've only used for a few hours... will update as I use, especially if I have an issue...

I just bought this after researching, so that i can record a very important video conference. Went to play it for my colleague and NO audio. Is this too much information to relay, when selling it?! I'm demanding a full-refund, rather than download a stupid add-on (free) that I have to track for updates... it's just stupid. They need to come from a customer perspective when advertizing... or designing, for that matter. I mean, seriously?!!!!! No audio. Hmmmmm... maybe I should get another program, or maybe I'd be more open to downloading a free piece of additional software to get the audio. Fact is, I wouldve just started an audio recording on Quicktime and dropped it in later. What a dissappointment that they were NOT thinking of the Average Customer. People that do screen recording for a living already have the knoweledge that they didnt share, or at least they'd know to look. I mean, it's sold on apple store and it doesnt record audio, unless you want to speak into microphone for overlay... oh, gee... why wasnt' i told before I lost the whole video conference?

i have a brand new Mac mini. This program takes a full TWO MINUTES between clicking the record button and actually recording! WHY!? als, WHY do you have to hit return after hitting the record button? it’s really REALLY STUPID to have to do this extra step. it’s just bad programming. even at 30 frames per second, it takes 10 times longer than quick time to save a darn file! This was an incredible waster of money for me. Defeats the whole purpose of making a recording. i want it NOW, not two minutes frm now.

One of my favorite features in Screenium was the ability to pause a recording, and for that pause to add a break in the video/audio files. That allowed me to quickly set markers for various takes or different shots without have to stop the recording. For some reason, that feature was removed, and there does not appear to be a way quickly edit long recordings anymore. Now it’s basically like Quicktime Screen Recording. Please add some feature in to add markers or something.
