  • What I am missing

First off: This is the Course/subscription you want, if you really want to learn ALL the aspects with regard to playing guitar. However, the song library is severely missing content. There is hardly any Metallica (really!), not much Guns N’Roses etc. Layla from Derek & the Dominoes etc. there are just a ton of iconic classics that you would have to google (and find questionable instructors) On the songs that are there, I would appreciate a visual explanation of the Amp setup instead of just rambling it off. Lastly, I have not found a way to get feedback from instructors. Maybe I am not looking in the right spots, but this would improve the subscription.
  • The Best Learning Tool For Guitar Period

Hands down the best tool I’ve used to learn. I’ve tried lessons, youtube and others but this has struck the perfect balance. I’m 53 years old and thought I would give it a try. The instruction started at slow pace so I wasn’t intimidated. The video tutorials were great, as is your instructors (give Lisa McCormick a raise!). It’s turned out to be money well spent and I look forward to each lesson. Keep up the good work!

I’ve been using guitar tricks a long time now and I can say that they are committed to providing new content and updating their app on a consistent basis... this is especially important to me when I’m paying a subscription... I’ll continue to be a loyal customer as long as their support remains top notch

App loads and allows login but when making a selection it promptly exits. Also, the display does not orient itself when rotating iPad. I’ll continue to use the online site.

I started out learning via YouTube, which was very good and got me off the ground but I missed the fundamentals. Guitar Tricks really gets into the fundamentals I missed and is so much easier than dealing with all the YouTube adds. Highly recommend it.
  • App will not update

Despite multiple download and re-installs on my iPad Pro, I am unable to use the new app because it reverts to the old design every time. I am on a second gen IPad Pro with the latest iOS so I should not be having problems updating the app. Will change my score if I’m ever able to use the app I pay $200 a year to access.

Great app with lessons on techniques for beginners to advanced. They really need to work on their song library. A band like Green Day is not even in their library. Popular bands like Led Zeppelin is in there, but not even their top hits, 2 lesser known songs, really? GunsnRoses there is no Sweet Child of Mine or Welcome to the Jungle, you just get Knocking on Heavens Door. GuitarTricks needs to at least make videos on bands’ top 5 songs. Instead they have like the 20th most popular song. They do a decent job with AC/DC.

I myself am currently a beginner (Nearly 2 months in). I have tried Yousician which was ok but lacking a lot of that 1 on 1 experience and from a technical standpoint wasn’t the best for actually learning it was just about follow what you see on screen and really bright/colorful etc. This app is straightforward, you get an instructor which gives that 1 on 1 feel and you get to choose or watch all the lessons if needed on completing a certain course. That is super helpful because unlike Yousician I didn’t have to unlock levels to continue. I somewhat learned stuff on YouTube which was helpful but lacking the learning and technical standpoint I’m looking for. I honestly after watching YouTube videos got tired of y’all’s ads that y’all would play on each guitar video I would watch lol and was like you know what I’m going to check it out and I love it lol. Great ads because it is exactly right (for me). I simply cannot just learn on YouTube. I did learn from YouTube but I had no way of even checking my progress or feeling like I’ve learned much because I would watch different YouTubers and videos which were either with my level of learning or way too advanced. I feel much more confident going into this app and understanding what y’all are teaching me and actually picking up where I left off. I struggled a lot my first few weeks because I told myself I can learn it all from YouTube or be self taught but I’ve never played an instrument really, so in a musical sense it just wasn’t going to happen or take long for me to progress. Each lesson I’m learning I feel better in my abilities and adjusting and using my fingers on the fretboard and remembering finger placements, so when I play together with the instructor I can read the tabs and play together smoothly without looking at my guitar (sometimes or at a minimal once I remember the all the notes for that course/song). Overall very happy with this app I am learning a lot and I feel once I reach my 6 months mark I will be at least a decent guitar player. And now I can even say I know how to play guitar and even FEEL like a real guitar player so for that I say thank you Guitar Tricks and your onslaught of ads on YouTube lol, but seriously I really love this app....But why is this only rated 4 stars? I feel like one aspect that needs to be fixed it’s not a major issue but supper annoying at times. I feel that there needs to be a full landscape mode to the app. Reason being I’m sure people who use a phone prop it up on something or like myself use a tripod and once a course finishes I need to remove my phone from the clip that holds my phone in place, switch the course and then put it back each time, sometimes even in landscape mode or full screen mode of video if I rewind or pause the video it goes back to portrait mode and won’t auto detect I’m still in landscape. I have to constantly do that. Which cuts into my time that I have a day (which is about 20-30 minutes sometimes). That can really make me frustrated and feel like I don’t have enough time with the course. That is my only complaint, nothing with the courses or instructors just an issue with app interface itself. Correct that and this makes it a full 5 stars any day. Thanks again Guitar Tricks, hope this helps!

I’ve never picked up a guitar before and have decided to learn. I love how this app breaks everything down for you! It’s helpful to have the visual along with the instruction. My favorite part is that they even break down how to strum. If you’ve never done it before, all of this stuff is unknown. So, to have someone there to teach you all of the techniques is extremely helpful! I’ve now mastered quite a few chords and I’ve also been able to play along with a couple of the songs that they teach! Thank you for the awesome instruction on so many levels!
